She is the founder of Women of Woodworking, Katie Thompson.

Katie Thompson is a woodworker and designer.

Katie Thompson is a woodworker, designer, and community builder who discovered her passion for woodworking in 2010 after meeting her husband, a skilled furniture maker.

With a background in communications and marketing, she transitioned from digital advertising to hands-on craftsmanship, eventually creating furniture, launching her jewelry line Black Swamp, and authoring a children’s woodworking book.

Katie is also the founder of the Women of Woodworking Project, a global community that celebrates and supports women and gender non-conforming makers.

Katie shared about:

  • Katie’s journey in woodworking as a transformative and empowering experience.
  • How woodworking teaches humility and adaptability, as everyone interacts with furniture differently.
  • The deep life lessons woodworking has taught her—especially patience—and her passion for empowering others through the Women of Woodworking Project, a global community she founded to highlight underrepresented makers.
